My negative perception of Springfield Massachusetts is a construct of society. It’s a construct of listening, believing, and accepting other people’s opinions and ideas of the city as my own personal truth. Through these photographs, I deconstruct external ideologies of the city in order to create new myths of the city for myself. In “kissing a slab of this earth”, I take a city that is commonly rejected and I accept its integral influence over me as a resident of Springfield and as a child of the city.
